What Actually Separates a Good Installer From the Rest

A heat pump is only as good as its installation, so before comparing brands or prices, it's worth checking the company itself. Look for certified, insured technicians rather than informal contractors, manufacturer training on the brands they install (not just "we can fit anything"), and a written warranty of at least 2 years on the installation itself, separate from the manufacturer's own warranty on the unit.

Just as important: does the company run a genuine free site survey before quoting, or just give a phone estimate? Hot water demand, plumbing and electrical compatibility all affect the real price, and a company willing to visit before quoting is usually more trustworthy than one that isn't. Finally, ask what happens after installation — is there a maintenance plan, and how fast do they respond to a repair call? Our own answers to these questions are covered throughout this site, including our installation cost guide and maintenance plans.

Common Questions

How to Choose the Best Heat Pump Company in Kenya — FAQs

What certifications should a heat pump installer have?

Look for certified, insured technicians with manufacturer training on the specific brands they install, rather than general contractors working outside their specialism.

Should I get multiple quotes?

Yes, it's reasonable to compare quotes, but make sure each one follows an actual site survey rather than a phone estimate — otherwise you're not comparing like for like.

What warranty is reasonable?

A 2-year installation warranty is a reasonable minimum, in addition to whatever manufacturer warranty applies to the unit itself.

Why does a free site survey matter?

Hot water demand, existing plumbing and electrical compatibility all affect the real price and system sizing — a phone estimate can't account for any of that accurately.
